Excess pollen is known to blanket everywhere in the springtime.
Though it is a godsend for bees and other insects, pollen can cover everything and cause allergies.
Allergy attacks and hay fever are frequent for people who cannot handle all of the excess pollen in the air. All of the dust tricks the body into thinking it is sick, so the blood cells release histamine, which causes complications, making people sick. People who are not accustomed to such a vast amount of pollen in the air can cause significant health problems, especially for people with asthma or any form of respiratory disease. If you or your family suffers from pollen sickness, then there are ways to keep pollen out of your garden and away from home.
You can start by spraying blankets of pollen off of your car and away from your driveway. Turn on your sprinkling system more frequently to wash out and keep away pollen out of your yard and driveway. Try to get rid of weeds around your garden. They are known to emit pollen, especially in places where weeds are allowed to run rampant. Purchase the necessary weed killer and spray to kill. You can also pluck them. Make sure that all weed roots are killed to prevent future containment. Grass also emits lots of pollen so keep your grass cut often.
If you are allergic to pollen but still like to garden outside, you can wear protective clothing such as gloves and long-sleeved shirts to stay protected outside.
You can also wear goggles and a hat to keep pollen out of your hair. Keep your hands away from your face while gardening. When going inside, be sure to shower to get rid of any pollen from your skin. Leave your gardening shoes outside or in the garage to avoid tracking pollen into the house.
For the inside, change your air filter every three months and sweep and dust regularly to cut down on the amount of pollen that can get inside the house. The good news is that many gardeners who spend time around plants and flowers will be immune over time by the amount of pollen exposure. If you are getting allergies, then do not look to good plants such as roses and lilies. Look for the main culprits such as weeds and grass and regularly trim to cut down on pollen in your area.
