It is a deciduous climber that, when located in the wild, can extend up to 100 feet tall. The Leaves Of Virginia Creeper There are typically five leaflets that combine to make up each set of leaves. Occasionally, however, it can be found with three or seven leaflets. Either way, they're joined on the leafstalk's central point and grow anywhere from one to eight inches. They have a bright green appearance in summer, and then they turn into brilliant shades of red and purple in autumn. Each leaflet has a toothed margin, and the seedlings come with heart-shaped leaves. The Flowers Of The Perennial Late spring brings with it inconspicuous flower clusters. They brighten this plant with their greenish, small appearance. However, they don't really become more noticeable until they turn into berries. The Berries Of The Vine Berries grow on it in the late summer or early fall. These hard, small berries are purplish-black and typically don't get larger than 1/4 inch in diameter. In fact, due to the long lifespan of the berries, they become a vital source of winter food for a wide array of birds. Get Yours From TN Nursery While it's true that they can grow to astronomical heights in the wild, that's not going to happen when you plant them around your home. Instead, their growth rate is limited by the structure that they're given to grow on. In other words, if you want them to grow up to only three feet, give them something three feet tall to climb. On the other hand, if you want them to soar up to 40 feet, you'll need to give them something that tall to climb. This height control method is a fantastic way to end up with them that do exactly what you want them to do. Something that helps set creepers apart is that they will not damage your building. Therefore, these deciduous climbers will work great in your yard.

It is a unique and versatile plant with various landscaping benefits. Its distinctive appearance and adaptability make it a popular choice for enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of outdoor spaces. Unlike its name may suggest, it is not a true moss but a primitive vascular plant belonging to the Lycopodiaceae family. Fan clubmoss, which may also be referred to as running cedar or ground pine, has the appearance of a low-growth coniferous plant. However, it is actually a clubmoss, which is related to ferns. This non-flowering perennial plant was once commonly found across the eastern portion of North America. However, deforestation has dramatically reduced its presence in the wild. Because of its many notable attributes, this plant is an ideal choice to consider adding to your yard. Beyond just its striking looks, here are a few key reasons why it adds value to any yard. Running Cedar Can Tell You More About Your Environment It is a fern-like plant that's said to be adept at pulling pollutants out of its surroundings, which can help you improve the overall health of other plants in the area as well as remove some of the airborne pollutants that might impact your well-being. Because it serves to remove toxins, changes in the health of the plant could indicate issues with the soil or the air that even this hardy little plant can't handle by itself. This Perennial Will Stick With You It takes its time to grow, but don't let that fool you into thinking that it will easily be weakened by weather and other threats. This fern ally is fairly hardy, ensuring that it will be able to persist in your space even if it is presented with some climate changes or other changes that other plants in your yard might not be able to pull through. It Defends Against Soil Erosion and Flooding While it does creep along your yard, it's important to remember that this isn't a traditional moss. This plant is a vascular plant that does have root systems, allowing it to more effectively defend against soil erosion. Its love of moisture also means that it can defend against flooding and absorb more water when it appears. TN Nursery Offers These For Groundcover Needs It is small, but it spreads out, which makes it a wonderful lush green ground cover for any space in your yard. Sheet Moss

Sheet Moss

Sheet Moss is a lush, low-growing species that forms a dense carpet of soft, emerald-green foliage, often used in terrariums, floral arrangements, and as a ground cover in shaded areas.  It is one of the most favored kinds of type that is used for lawns. It’s so named because it creates a ‘sheet’ over a garden or forest floor. Beyond the luxurious and welcoming appearance and vibe of this dense sheet, it also serves as the protecting home for a variety of microfauna, including frogs, spiders, and insects. Many small ecosystems revolve around the layers of it on the forest floor, and gardeners who are seeking to add more biodiversity to their gardens should consider adding it to the ground of their gardens. Where Does Sheet Moss Grow Officially known as Hypnum curvifolium, it is a wide-ranging plant that is found on every continent except for Antarctica. It’s mostly found in temperature regions of the world and adapts well to moist areas. You’ll commonly see it underneath logs or rocks, around tree trunks, or near natural sources of water. In gardens, you’ll usually find it around clay pots, stones, or next to artificial ponds. Description of This Moss It is most notable for its soft fronds that collectively form a thick carpet of green over a forest floor. The individual leaves are very small and overlap a bit over one another, which helps to create the plant’s soft and lavish texture and appearance. Laying down over it will be akin to laying down over nature’s version of a mattress. While the leaves are normally a bright green, they will also develop a slight but noticeable yellow tint when moisture levels deplete a bit or are under prolonged exposure to sunlight. Why is It A Good Choice For Gardeners Gardeners like it because of how adaptable it is. It can easily retain moisture to help hydrate the soil underneath it and prevent erosion. People will often add it to gardens as well as terrariums to help create an atmosphere that is equally as lush as it is inviting. It is also very low maintenance and requires minimal pruning and watering. Many gardeners who want to create a green covering over the ground will turn to it over grass for this reason. It’s a suitable choice both for experienced gardeners and those who are new to the hobby. Grass is the traditional go-to for groundcover, but one shouldn't put Sheet Moss out of their mind. Certain varieties, like this type, form a lush sheet of green over the surface it inhabits. But much like any other plant, the reasons to grow this type of ground cover go far beyond just what it has to offer aesthetically. Here's how this plant can benefit and enhance your landscape with ease. It Defends Your Soil Against Erosion and Flooding Are you looking for ground cover that grows better in your region and offers benefits for the surrounding environment? If so, this plant is an excellent choice. While it doesn't have a root system, it's still an excellent plant that can defend against soil erosion and serve to better control the flow of water, leading to less flooding if you live in an area that experiences a lot of rain or a few unpredictable showers here and there during the winter and spring seasons. It Is a Benefit for Other Plants in Your Garden That Loves Moisture This type of plant loves moisture, which is why it's often recommended for regions where grass can't easily thrive. However, you can go a step beyond that and grow plants that also love moisture on top of this plant as it serves to retain moisture that your other plants will rely on to grow strong. You can even add it to potted plants for this purpose as well as to improve the aesthetics of items like bonsai trees. It Tolerates a Range of Condition As we just touched upon, this plant loves moisture, but that doesn't mean that it can't hold up against conditions that might threaten the lives of other varieties. In comparison, this variety is actually hardier, making it easier to keep alive once you spread it across your landscape. If you're looking for ground cover that enhances your space and will hold up over time, this is the one to choose. It Is TN Nursery's Best Seller Because of The Year-Round Greenery  You want your yard to look as lush and as vibrant as possible throughout the year, and this form of groundcover can help you achieve exactly that. Its distinctive formation and adaptability make it a favored choice for enhancing outdoor spaces in water gardens and features, shade, and damp areas. In the winter or late autumn, the new stems are long and pointed. Their beaked, blunt end caps and varying shades of golden to reddish brown are telltale signs of maturity. They are vibrant green and also form dense, round cushions. They can split off and grow into new plants, a process known as fragmentation, which helps with asexual reproduction. This is how the moss is able to cover such a large area so fast. Build Healthy Habitats for Insects With Moss The dense cushions that these mosses form provide shelter and protection to a variety of animals and small organisms. They retain moisture, creating ideal microclimates for insects, spiders, and other types of invertebrates. These microclimates help to create larger habitats for larger species. Because of their insulating qualities and gentle texture, they are a popular nesting material for many tiny animals and birds. Enjoy Air Purification With TN Nursery's Moss They absorb pollutants from the air, making them excellent natural air purifiers. Small, hair-like structures known as rhizoids and papillae cover the surface, serving as a net for airborne dust and catching it on the surface of the moss. The moss structure then uses capillary action and microbial processes to digest and decompose the particles after they are within the moss. They also have bacteria that can transform pollution into usable biomass. Get Rid of Weeds With This Ground-cover It is an excellent weed suppressor because it can form a physical barrier, release allelopathic chemicals, and shade the soil. Their enhanced ability to better compete with weeds for nutrients also contributes to their weed suppression abilities. In addition to stabilizing the dirt and stopping plant colonization, their thick growth habit further prevents weed seed germination. Cushion Moss, also known as pincushion moss, is a type of low-growing moss that is very densely packed together. You’ll most commonly find it in moist gardens, rock gardens, alongside pathways, or in close proximity to areas of water. Description of It It is instantly recognizable for its green color, which sometimes has a tint of blue to it. The drier it gets. However, the more the blue tint begins to go away, the lighter the green will become as well. In many ways, it is like nature’s carpet. It’s very soothing to step barefoot over and help you connect with nature. For this reason, along with its luxuriant appearance, it can turn a dull landscape into a pleasant and soothing one. What is the Appeal of It To Gardeners It offers many benefits for gardeners that go beyond its plush feel or verdant appearance. It acts as a natural mulch to keep weed growth to a minimum and help the soil beneath it retain moisture. This helps the soil in gardens to remain hydrated even during periods of drought. Another benefit to it is how low maintenance it is. It only requires minimal pruning and watering to maintain its vibrancy. This makes it a good choice for those who want a lush landscape that doesn’t require a lot of care. Black Willow

Black Willow

The Black Willow is a highly adaptable tree that can grow in wetlands, along riverbanks, and in drier upland areas. Their extensive root systems help stabilize soil, prevent erosion, and improve water purity by filtering pollutants and excess nutrients. This shrub is a remarkable species with numerous landscaping benefits. Its unique characteristics and ecosystem services make it a valuable addition to various environments, ranging from residential gardens to public parks and urban green spaces. Enjoy Rapid Growth With Black Willow Trees Black willows can reach heights ranging from 40 to 60 feet. They have wedge-shaped leaves that narrow to a pointy end. These leaves are normally two to six inches long. One side of the leaves stays somewhat glossy and has a medium-to-dark green color. The other side usually has a dull appearance in the same hue. As they grow, the bark on these trees may become a sandy color or even turn black. It also becomes deeply grooved. The genetic makeup of these trees causes them to grow extremely fast. Their root system, which efficiently absorbs water and nutrients, further contributes to their rapid growth. Enhance Phytoremediation With This Tree  By drawing out organic pollutants, metalloids, and metals from the soil, they act as filters. They can even remove the herbicide Bentazon from shallow groundwater via their filtration capabilities. This is very useful in areas where there is a lot of industrial waste or agricultural runoff. The rate at which these plants can detoxify themselves is dependent on the contaminants they come across. Another way these plants help with phytoremediation is by releasing enzymes and other chemicals that break down organic pollutants in soil or groundwater. Once absorbed, the pollutants undergo metabolic or physiological changes inside the tree. These changes either lower their concentration or convert them into less harmful forms. Perfect For Planting In Water's Edge Because of their towering height, thick foliage, and quick growth rate, they are great options for creating natural privacy. Their verdant greenery creates a dense canopy that shuts out unwanted light and noise. Planting them in rows creates a living wall that blocks the view of nearby houses or busy roadways. They provide soil protection because of their deep, spreading roots. These roots have a high capacity for absorbing water, which is of great benefit in areas prone to flooding or waterlogging. They not only prevent soil saturation but also mitigate water runoff. Their adaptability to damp environments and soil preservation capabilities make them useful for revegetating disturbed areas and rehabilitating damaged ecosystems. Buy At TN Nursery

Pin Oak Tree

Pin Oak Tree

Pin Oak tree is a large deciduous type with distinctive deeply lobed leaves and tiny acorns, known for its pyramidal shape and tolerance of wet soil conditions, making it a popular choice in landscaping. The pin oak is also known as Quercus palustris and is an especially common tree for landscaping purposes in its native area. This is partially because it grows relatively fast, at a rate of approximately 2 feet a year. It generally reaches a final height of 60-80 feet, sometimes exceeding 100 feet, while its spread tends to be around 25-40 feet. Its usual lifespan is 120 years. Locations The Pin Oak Tree Likes The native area for them is a swath of land from New England to North Carolina in the east westward to Kansas and Oklahoma. It possesses extensive numbers in Indiana and Ohio. Of course, they are also found in other parts of the world, the United Kingdom and Australia being notable examples. They tend to be located in damp areas, particularly near lakes, rivers, and streams, as well as in wet, low-lying places. The "palustris" part of its alternate name accurately describes this tendency as it means "of swamps." However, they do not grow at high elevations, roughly anywhere from 1,100 feet in elevation and above, or on sloped surfaces. Distinctive Canopy Of The Tree One of the ways that this type of greenery stands out from similar ones is its canopy. That is because the branches that are towards its lower portion tend to point downwards; the ones in the middle are usually pointing nearly directly to the sides, and branches at the top are usually pointing upwards. Leave Of Them The leaves have points on their lobes, of which there are five or seven. The leaves are usually around 2-6 inches long and 2-4 inches broad. With it being deciduous, that means that those leaves are shed every fall and regrown every spring. That said, some younger ones of this type, such as those of a height of 20 feet or less, keep leaves through the winter. TN Nursery Offers Stunning Healthy Plants They are easy to transport since they have shallow, fibrous roots with no accompanying taproots. That type of root system is also what allows these oaks to adapt to flooded conditions.

Pitch Pine Tree

Pitch Pine Tree

The Pitch pine tree is a rugged, evergreen tree native to eastern North America, characterized by its long, dark green needles, rough bark, and the production of resin-rich "pitch" that has various commercial uses. The Pitch Pine Tree is also known as Pinus rigida. The latter term means that it is stiff (rigid) and that it has pine needles, which are leaves that are thin, long, and sharp. In fact, those needles are stiff as well. They can live for 200 years and have been used to make things like paper, lumber, pulp, and turpentine, while their high levels of resin, which preserve them from decay, have resulted in them being used in the building of ships in the past years. Locations Of The Pitch Pine Tree They are predominantly located in an area that covers much of the Northeast United States, and that stretches down to around the Tennessee-North Carolina border - i.e., an area focused on the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Small parts of Georgia and South Carolina are included as well. North of the border, this type of greenery is found in limited numbers in Ontario and Quebec. Size Of The Tree This type is on the smaller side, usually growing to around 20-100 feet in height, extending by about a foot per year for the first 60 or so years of its life, assuming that the conditions are optimal. The needles that they possess are usually about 2-5 inches long, while its cones tend to be 2 inches in length. One of the ways that they stand out is through their irregular shape. For example, they tend to possess twisted branches and do not effectively engage in self-pruning, which is the shedding of damaged or shaded branches. However, this type's trunk is usually mostly straight with a gentle curve. Help Save The Planet With TN Nursery They are able to regenerate at a high level, utilizing their basal roots, which dig far into the soil, to do so if necessary. Not only does this help them survive fire damage, but they also have thick barks that help protect their trunks against that type of threat. In addition, their cones are sealed with resin, and that seal requires heat, such as from a fire, to open. So, in the worst-case scenario, those cones would open, and their seeds would be spread, resulting in a new generation being grown in the area.

Silver Maple Live Stakes

Silver Maple Live Stakes

Silver Maple Live Stakes are young, rooted cuttings or branches from the silver maple tree acer saccharinum used for streambank stabilization and erosion control, known for their rapid growth and ability to establish quickly in wetland areas. If you are struggling to keep erosion to a minimum, you may want to consider buying Silver Maple live stakes. They are the branches or cuttings of rooted plants that can be placed near a river or marsh or in a watery area itself, depending on your needs. Silver Maple Live Stakes Are Noted for Their Rapid Growth Perhaps the best reason to get them is that they will grow at a rapid rate, which means that they can provide relief from erosion in a short period of time. This is because the roots will anchor into the soil and prevent it from being washed away. If you live on a slope, they can prevent the land from sliding away because they will have too strong a grip on it. The Live Stakes Are Hardy Another reason to get these items as opposed to planting the trees themselves is that they are abundant and can be collected during most of the year. The reason why they are so plentiful is because you don't actually need to cut a tree down. Instead, you just get the small part of it that you need and watch them grow on their own. Reclaim the Land in an Eco-friendly Manner With These The use of them means that you don't need to spend a lot of time or money on soils or other items that typically help a plant grow. Instead, you simply put it in soil that already exists and watch it grow. Taking such a natural approach can help improve or retain the existing outdoor air quality as there is no need for machines or additives like manure that create foul odors. TN Nursery Offers Plants That Can Live For Over 400 Years In addition to growing rapidly, the resulting tree can outlast for over 100 years if planted properly. Even if it doesn't have the best environment, it can still survive for several decades. Ultimately, you will have something that will help to protect your property for the rest of your life and may protect your property for generations to come.

Sweet Gum Tree

Sweet Gum Tree

The Sweet Gum tree has tall deciduous tree native to North America, known for its distinctive star-shaped leaves, spiky brown seed balls, and vibrant fall foliage. One of the standout benefits of using trees in landscaping is their striking visual appeal. The sweet gum, also known as Liquidambar styraciflua and American sweetgum, is considered to be a highly valuable forest tree. It can occasionally be confused for a maple as it has star-shaped, five-pointed leaves. Sweet Gum Tree Leaves In the summer, these will grow smooth and shiny leaves with a rich, satisfying green color. It's in autumn that the sweetgum really shines, though. Their leaves can turn into a variety of different colors, including dark purple, yellow, and red. Once again, comparable to maples, they appear to be almost on fire as they go out in a blaze of glory. It's truly something to behold and will easily become your favorite fall beauty. The Flowers and Fruit Of The Tree Flowers first appear in spring, and they'll typically hang in there until at least fall. Depending on their gender, you may see yellowish-green drooping flowers or reddish-green upright flowers. Either way, the staminate flowers can grow up to three inches long. Over time, the ovaries of the sweetgum's flowers will harden and become fruit. The fruit is dry and hard, and each one-inch fruit contains between 40-60 capsules. Inside of these capsules are small seeds. Once they fall to the ground, these seeds are commonly referred to as burr balls. The majority of these seeds won't come to fruition, but they do provide a nice food source for squirrels, birds, and chipmunks. It On Your Property Sweetgums offer excellent shade, and they should be planted away from foot traffic. They have a long and distinguished history that dates back to at least 1517, and they can live for up to 400 years. As they grow, they'll develop deeply ridged bark that is sometimes called alligatorwood. Additionally, the branches will become gray, dark brown, or reddish-brown. Shop At TN Nursery Today If you're fond of stepping on fallen leaves, you'll be treated to a camphor-like fragrance. When you combine this with the absolutely breathtaking autumn appearance of sweetgum, you'll be getting a deciduous sapling that can become part of your overall legacy. After all, with its long lifecycle, it can outlive you, along with several subsequent generations.

Sourwood Tree

Sourwood Tree

The Sourwood Tree is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree native to the southeastern United States. It is notable for its long panicles of fragrant, white, urn-shaped flowers and vibrant red fall foliage. Among garden trees, the Sourwood Tree fits the bill. It grows to be around 25 feet tall, and its branches generally spread up to 10 feet. It will become a stalwart focal point in any garden. These plants are stately enough to please the eye yet small enough not to overpower any perennials that are planted around them. Another name for this plant is the sorrel. Sourwood Tree Has Beautiful Blooms They say, "Good things come to those who wait." That is true of this plant. Beginning with its fifth season after being planted, it will sprout gorgeous white flowers throughout June and July every year. These flowers are bell-shaped and grow on panicles in a flowing, attractive fashion that has led them to be called "angel fingers." The flowers are sweet-smelling, as well, and they produce so much nectar during their blooming that it fairly drips from the branches at the slightest shake. The Leaves of Are Rich and Colorful During the fall, the leaves will turn all sorts of brilliant colors, notably red and deep purple. The bark is reddish brown and is attractively furrowed, matching the hues of the changing leaves. The leaves are pleasantly aromatic, reminiscent of the smell of the honey produced from the tree's nectar. The wonderful aroma is balanced between astringency, which gives the plant its name, and the sweetness of anise. The leaves are oblong and finely tapered, and the surface is glossy enough to reflect sunlight attractively. TN Nursery Offers This Stunning Tree So Much More After the blooms fade at the beginning of August, pretty silvery capsules form along the branches. The color of these capsules meshes nicely with the changing leaves and the furrowed bark all the way into winter. Because the sorrel is a slow-growing plant, its wood and bark are strong and sturdy, providing a beautiful sight in all four seasons. The Ecological Niche of It Pollinators, especially bees, love the flowers, the sweet-and-sour nectar which produces the world's greatest honey. Birds will also fly among the branches for a snack as autumn turns to winter. As the sorrel is largely unaffected by pests or disease, it will likely remain a fine focal point in any garden for many years.

Tulip Poplar Tree

Tulip Poplar Tree

The Tulip Poplar Tree is recognized for its distinctive tulip-shaped leaves, vibrant yellow-green flowers, and straight trunk, making it a valuable timber and ornamental plant. It is magnificent and versatile, with numerous landscaping benefits. Its striking appearance, rapid growth, and adaptability to different soil types make it a popular choice for homeowners, parks, and public spaces. One of its most noticeable benefits is its aesthetic appeal. Tulip trees, also known as Liriodendron tulipifera, are among the tallest conifers in eastern North America. They can grow to a height of 192 feet. Interestingly, they typically don't grow limbs until they're at least 80 feet tall, which makes them one of the most valuable timber conifers in the world. The Leaves Of Tulip Poplar Tree Although most grow their buds in the spring, these ones begin with a winter bud. Throughout the winter season, the buds are dark red. Once the growing season returns, though, they'll slowly unfold until leaves are revealed. When fully grown, they are simple leaves that grow up to six inches and have four lobes. Additionally, they become a vibrant, bright green when seen from above. Meanwhile, their underside is a paler green with visible, downy veins. In the fall, these leaves turn a bright yellow that really stands out. The Flowers Of The Ornamental Tree The flowers are tulip-like and begin to unveil themselves during the month of May. Each solitary flower begins as greenish-yellow, although they'll transform themselves into a yellowish-red as autumn gets near. Once again, they truly go out in style. Be sure to pay close attention to the multiple transformations they go through as summer turns into fall. The Fruit The Plant Produces In September and October, the fruit will appear in the shape of many samaras. These light brown, narrow cones are easily dispersed by the wind and help propagate the species. As a result, they do not provide a food source for wildlife, although they are home to 28 different species of moths. Shop Today At TN Nursery Once they are developed, they can have a trunk that's at least four to six feet wide! The bark is furrowed and brown, and it's also bitter, though aromatic. When branchlets first begin to grow, they'll be reddish. Over time, these branchlets will turn dark gray before settling into a rich brown color. Planting one of them is a fantastic investment for future generations. After all, they'll still be growing in 200 years. Give them just 15 years, though, and you'll see them grow up to 40 feet.

6 Pack -Horsetail Plant

6 Pack -Horsetail Plant

The horsetail plant, also known as the common type, is an herbaceous perennial and a close relative of ferns. It consists of two different types of stems: non-reproductive and photosynthetic, as well as reproductive and non-photosynthetic. They derive from giant, tree-like plants that grew approximately 400 million years ago in many parts of the world. Characteristics of the Horsetail Plant The size of it can vary quite a bit. These fern-like plants can grow from anywhere between eight inches and five feet, although there are also "giant" types that can reach as high as eight feet. They are distinguishable by their hollow stems, which look similar to asparagus. As it dries, small silica crystals develop along the stems and branches, creating the appearance of feathery tails. As the name of it suggests, many people find this to look similar to the beautiful tail of a horse. They are typically a bright green color and are usually found growing in dense clusters, which can often look like patches of tall grass or thin bamboo shoots. Common Uses Of This Ornamental Grass It is a relatively versatile species that can have several uses. For one, these can add a lovely aesthetic to a garden, improve the atmosphere of a courtyard, or line the edges of a pathway. If you're looking to increase the privacy and seclusion of an outdoor space, planting clusters of them can be an excellent option. Due to their height and tendency to grow in thick clusters, it can add a pleasing border along the fence of your garden. Alternatively, smaller groups of them can be planted as simple decorative elements to add some variety and life to a sparse outdoor area. TN Nursery Offers Simple Yet Beautiful Although they may not be the most colorful or exotic-looking plants, they are unique and fascinating species that can offer quite a few benefits to any outdoor area. A cluster of them could be the perfect addition to the front of your home, a private courtyard, or your tranquil garden.

Mosquito season can be an irritating time of the year when you're simply trying to enjoy your backyard or garden. Mosquito repellent plants and trees from TN Nursery can help keep these annoying, biting insects at bay. Certain plants and trees give off odors that are unpleasant to mosquitoes and can drive them away without the use of chemicals or bug spray.

Mosquito Repellant Plants

Nuisance insects can often be a nuisance, especially when they come in large numbers, but mosquito repellant plants can help with that problem. Especially after all the work and care you might put into your garden or yard, it can be very discouraging not to be able to enjoy all the effort you put in. Bug sprays and other similar methods may help, but they are only temporary and often involve chemicals.

They are a great way to get rid of some of the insects without the need for chemicals or other costly methods. Since they also continuously repel insects, you can enjoy your yard or garden all year long.

There are many types of flowers that keep them away. By including a variety of these in different areas of your yard or garden, you can achieve the most benefit at repelling these nuisance insects.

Some Plants Include Trees

Many trees emit a scent that is very pleasing to humans but avoided by nuisance insects. Certain species of cedars and oaks emit such a fragrance year-round. With careful planning of where they are placed, they can provide years of insect control, as well as shade for your flowers and a safe shelter for many animals, such as squirrels and birds. Many Viburnum species also emit a calming fragrance and can help fill in larger open areas in your garden.

One of the most overlooked and misunderstood nuisance insects is moss. Although many people associate moss with more nuisance insects, they are actually one of the best at repelling them. In general, mosses require areas with lots of water to thrive. By absorbing a lot of the surrounding water, they can reduce the likelihood of pooling water that would otherwise become the perfect breeding area for insects.
