Lizard's Tail has heart-shaped leaves of three to six inches on red, zig-zag and hairy stems.
It features tiny, fragrant white flowers packed into tender, spike-like renames that droop at the tips. After the flowers die in August to September, the plant produces small, green warty fruits, which, with the drooping tips, gives the plant its common name of Lizard's Tail. The stems grow from sprouts, which can be above or below the water line. If you are a beginning gardener or just a hobbyist, this plant may be the right one for you. It looks beautiful, and the crushed flowers smell similar to sassafras, but Lizard's Tails need little attention to survive. Plant them in the right spot, and you'll be sure to have a colony in no time.
