Tree Amber

What is Amber? | Facts and Information

Monday, April 11

Have you ever wondered what exactly amber jewelry is made from?

You might think it's made from sap. You'd be close, but no cigar. While sap is more like the blood of a tree, the resin is a liquid more like honey that a tree can exude.

Amazingly, amber can be more than 300 million years old. Amber is still intact long after the oldest tree has become part of the forest floor. It can be found in various shades, from golden to brown and even red to blue. Many people favor amber without bubbles, but others are more inclined to think that anything that can survive that long is okay with a few "mistakes." Coniferous trees like the southern yellow pine are known for their resin. Find them in our tree nursery.
