The roots that were sent were plump and healthy. I planted right away and hoping for some beautiful medicinal plants to poke up from the soil soon.

Description

Pokeweed Plant is a Lush Aesthetically Pleasing Decorative Perennial

Phytolacca Plants  -Pokeweed Plants is a lush green plant that has whitish pink stems, round almond-shaped leaves that are brightly colored. Starting out in spring, the leaf colors darken throughout the summer. First, the plant produces tiny white flower clusters. Then, after that, the flowers become dark purple berries. Pokeweed is a wild growing plant and can be found thriving in many places throughout nature. Lately, it has become increasingly popular to use this plant for landscaping, due to the lovely way the berries hang delicately from the thin branches and the tenacity with which the pokeweed grows. They can live in most types of soil, quite a wide range of zones.

Pokeweed Plants - Phytolacca is Perfect for Drawing in Birds with its Berry Production

The stem color can vary from green to purple, but the best feature of the pokeweed are its white flowers which will turn into dark purple berries. These berries are sure to attract some of the best songbirds like the mockingbird. This is the perfect plant if you are an avid bird watcher and lover. Though pokeweed has toxins, some, with proper handling and care, have used this for recipes and medicinal properties. Regardless of their purpose, these berries will draw in beautiful birds for your family to enjoy watching.

Even before it was noticed for its pleasing aesthetics, Pokeweed was used for it's healing properties. Horticulturists use it aids the lymphatic system and help stimulate healing in areas like swollen glands. It is also believed to support the immune system and to ward off virus', swelling, or any inflammation. The berries of the pokeweed are what hold its seeds, so it is easy to reseed whenever you need to, a low maintenance plant. Along with the benefit of songbirds, this is a must-have for any garden.

The Plant in North America includes several decorative perennials within the Phytolacca genus. The most common, P. Americana, produces attractive flowers and abundant berries. This hardy plant thrives in Eastern, Central, and Coastal areas of North America.

The Plant produces tiny white, green, or purplish-red flowers and copious quantities of dark berries hanging on bright waxy red stems. The dark smooth purplish to blackberries somewhat resembles currents in appearance. They measure up to 0.25 inches in diameter. The berries help feed several species of birds. However, they prove quite poisonous when consumed by people, house pets, and livestock (as do other raw parts of this plant). Birdwatchers sometimes grow the plant as a food source for wild birds. When handling them, gardeners should wear gloves.

Impressive Heights

The Plant in North America typically reaches a maximum height of around 9 feet, although some robust examples have attained up to 20 feet or more! This hollow-stemmed perennial sends a strong taproot into the ground, enabling it to endure harsh environmental conditions which might overcome more delicate plants. Sometimes grown as a garden ornamental, the plant flowers throughout the year in the South. From early Spring through early Autumn in colder growing zones.
