How To Successfully Plant A Tree

However, for the tree to take to its new spot and thrive, it must have the suitable materials and knowledge to plant trees successfully. Once you have chosen your tree or trees, the first step is to ensure that all the gardening tools needed to plant a tree are on hand. Having a good shovel, stakes, and ties is necessary. Besides equipment, you will need to have fertilizer, mulch, and compost ready to add to the soil where the tree is being placed. After all those materials have been gathered, the next step is to find the perfect spot.

Finding the perfect spot to plant a tree is a task that should be given time. It is not a good idea to choose the right place for the tree because it is hard to transplant large trees, and if requirements regarding sunlight and soil are not met, there is also a high risk of losing the newly planted tree. Some factors to consider when searching for the best spot include the height of the tree when it is fully grown, the spread of the tree’s canopy, shape, amount of sun hitting the spot, and acidity of the soil.
After the tree has been selected, the soil where it will be placed has to be pre-watered. That means that the day before actually digging a hole for the tee, it is necessary to soak the ground to be entirely saturated. When the tree is planted, a hole has to be dug slightly larger than the width and depth of the tree’s roots. The sides of the freshly dug hole also have to loosen or roughed up before the tree is placed because that will enable the roots to spread appropriately and grip the soil. If this is not done, then there is potential that roots will naturally grow in a circle inside of the hole.
The soil removed from the ground in digging the hole is used to fill it in once the tree has been placed. Fertilizer and compost should be added so that the growing tree has enough nutrients to fulfill its needs. Stakes are then placed on the sides and attached to the tree to remain where it is. Finally, mulch is placed on top of where the hole was dug, and that retains moisture and prevents soil erosion.
Following those steps, the tree should thrive and grow to its fullest potential. The planting is the hardest part, and once it is done, the only thing left to do is water the tree a couple of times each week.
