Buy Vine Plants Online From a TN Nursery

Vines do what no other plant can. They turn a bare fence, a plain wall or an empty arbor into a wall of green and flowers, and they take up almost no ground space doing it. Trailing vines do the same work on the ground, covering slopes and shady spots where grass won’t grow. TN Nursery has grown and shipped plants from McMinnville, Tennessee, since 1959, so every vine you order comes from a family farm rather than a warehouse. Most vines are priced at $7.99.

How to Choose Climbing Vines

  • What’s your growing zone? Use the zone filter above. Most of our vines are hardy from zone 4 to zone 9.
  • What will it climb? Twining vines like wisteria wrap around posts, wires and arbors. Vines with clinging rootlets or adhesive pads, like trumpet vine and Virginia creeper, climb walls and fences on their own.
  • How big will it get? Trumpet vine and wisteria grow heavy, woody stems over many years. Give them a sturdy metal or wood structure, and keep them a few feet from your house’s siding and gutters.

Climbing Vines for Fences, Trellises and Arbors

Trumpet Vine is our best-selling vine. It is a fast-growing native with orange-red tubular flowers all summer that hummingbirds can’t resist. It spreads by suckers, so plant it where you can mow around the base. Virginia Creeper is a native climber that covers fences, walls and tree trunks quickly and turns brilliant red in fall. Wisteria drapes arbors and pergolas with fragrant purple flower clusters in spring. Want a mix? The 15 Trellis Climbing Favorites package is chosen for your zone.

Ground Cover Vines for Slopes and Shade

Trailing vines cover ground that’s hard to mow or plant. Partridge Berry is a slow-spreading native evergreen with red winter berries, ideal for shady woodland beds. Vinca Minor forms a dense evergreen mat with blue spring flowers and holds soil on steep banks. It spreads aggressively and is considered invasive near woodlands in parts of the eastern US, so plant it where it can be contained. Browse more options in ground cover plants .

Vines by Season and Light

For flowers, shop our flowering vines . For winter green, see evergreen vines . Trumpet vine and wisteria flower best in full sun. Virginia creeper, partridge berry and vinca grow well in part to full shade.

When Vines Ship

We ship vines bare root, freshly dug and packed ready for planting. Plant in fall or early spring, set the vine 12–18 inches from its support, and angle it toward the structure. See our planting instructions for step-by-step help.

What is the easiest vine plants to grow?

All our vines at TN Nursery are hardy native varieties, so they will all grow exceptionally well. Our favorites are trumpet vine, vinca minor, and partridgeberry plants. They are colorful and the best sellers. They work remarkably well for soil erosion and are also planted on steep hillsides where you can not maintain or control them by mowing. They smooth out weeds.
