One of the attributes that make gardeners love this firey plant because its' flowers retain their fiery red throughout the season and do not fade. The 4 1/2 inch long leaves are oval in shape and medium green.
Shrubs make an incredible purchase for three reasons. The plants are not only boldly beautiful, but they stand strong during droughts and cold winters and offer the homeowner little maintenance requirements.
Even hummingbirds hover about Weigelia Shrubs attracted to the plant's fragrant nectar and the ample "buffet" these shrubs provide.
The bushes thrive best in USDA zones of 3-8 and grow well in moist, well-draining soil in a sunny spot. Watering Weigelia Shrubs is not necessary because established bushes need little water unless climate conditions have been especially hot and dry. The shrubs are also deer resistant.
