Tips on Success

Using vines can be a lovely blend of beauty and utility, making them a wonderful addition to any garden. They produce vertical, climbing plants that can help make plain walls, fences, or pergolas look like living paintings that give your property a more desirable appearance. English Ivy, wisteria, or trumpet vine also provide pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds for the surrounding ecosystem. They're beautiful but also useful in providing shade, cooling your garden, and boosting privacy with natural screening. Most vines are low maintenance once established, blooming profusely without much care and adding interest and texture to the landscape. Because they're versatile, they will add color and elegance to every garden, large or small.

Vines

Vines are the secret ingredient behind any vibrant, diversified garden. They provide both form and function in yards of all sizes and are an excellent choice for erosion control, weed management, and more.

There's more erosion control to vines than what first meets the eye. These customer favorites come in all shapes and sizes, from leafy, woody varieties to herbaceous, flowery cultivars. Some even grow fruit to share with friends and family, including Concord, Catawba, and Fredonia grapes.

TN Nursery specializes in bare-root varieties for the discerning backyard gardener. We offer a one-year warranty on all our plants to guarantee your best growing season yet!

Why Add Vines To Your Backyard Landscape?

These ground cover plants are all about elegant refinement — they bring a touch of magic to any space. Whether aiming for a cottage garden or filling in gaps, you can't go wrong with their complex colors, subtle appearances, and weed control abilities.

If you're looking for a natural form of weed control, you may want these plants for your landscaping. Creeping varieties crowd out their competition, creating a lush, green space for your loved ones to enjoy. Vines are a great option if you want to fill in vertical spaces. It's easy to trellis climbing varieties on lattices, walls, and even pergolas.

Suppose you love the appearance of bright blooms (and smelling-rich fragrances). For example, the wisteria flowers add a lovely scent to outdoor entertainment areas. They are a great way to add diversity to your outdoor planting areas. Trees, shrubs, and flowers will always have a place in your garden, but one of these plants can make your space pop.

TN Nursery grows dozens of varieties so that you can make the perfect choice for your property. We stock fruit-bearing varieties, cover plants, and even classic English ivy to round out any planting space.

How to plant and nurture your vines

Easy to Grow

Planting Bare Root Vines

To plant a bare root vine, begin by giving the roots a good soak in water for a few hours so they’re not dry going into the ground. Pick a spot with decent drainage and set up your trellis or support before planting—don’t wait until it’s already growing.

Planting Bare Root Vines

Dig a hole that’s wide enough to let the roots spread out without bending. Form a little mound in the middle of the hole, place the vine’s crown just above that, and let the roots drape down and out.

Fill the hole back up with dirt, pressing it in gently but firmly. Water it well, and keep the soil damp—not soaked—as the vine gets established. Give it time, and soon enough, it’ll grab hold and start climbing.

Grow Tips For Success

Care For Groundcover Vines After Planting

Once ground cover vines are planted, keeping the soil slightly moist helps them take root without becoming waterlogged. Use a layer of mulch to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and keep roots cool.

Avoid Fertilizing Vines For a Little While

let the plant focus on root development in the native soil. If growth seems slow at first, be patient. These vines are adjusting to their new environment and typically take off after their roots settle.

Prune lightly to shape and train growth where you want it, especially if it's near walkways or other plants. Keep an eye out for competing weeds early on and remove them promptly so the vines don’t have to fight for space or nutrients.
