Carpet Moss Description

Carpet Moss (Hypnum curvifolium)is the best-selling moss for a reason; It's Carpet-like Beauty

Carpet moss, an evergreen plant, can thrive in all seasons and climate zones, forming ground cover!

It belongs to the genus Hypnum having a total of 80 species. North America is home to twenty of these species. This plant is widely present in the forest beside stream beds and at the base of trees. This plant grows all year if the sun and humidity are present simultaneously.

They are rootless plants that grow into a living carpet of golden and green in their youth and then darken with age. The leaves grow straight to one another and narrow to a point at the end, although they are not pointy. These characteristics collectively make it an ideal green layer for drawing attention to the earth's contour and adding a sense of drama to a garden's hidden shadowed areas.

It's a plant that can be used in a variety of ways. In addition, it can also be grown indoors or outdoors, in the sun or the shady areas. You can use it in gardens and lawns where grasses don't grow without enough moisture. An interior moss garden inside a terrarium is the preferred planting choice when growing inside.

This type of moss is a tiny plant about the size of a human palm. It spreads via spores and will quickly cover space, growing slowly. It will only reach a height of a few inches. Some species appear to grow in bunches, while others grow upright.

Carpet Moss (Hypnum curvifolium) is great for areas where nothing else will grow

Sexual and asexual reproduction is possible in carpet moss. These plants generate small female structures that form egg cells. And male structures make sperm cells while sexually reproducing, depending on meteorological conditions. They might appear in several areas of the same plant. Its sperm fertilize the eggs, resulting in a sporophyte formation.

The sporophyte starts to develop from the female plant, consuming nutrients from the parent. The capsules produce multiple spores. These open and discharge the spores to transform into new mosses that are leafy.

It is used for beautification in the gardening and flower industries. Historically, this plant was utilized to absorb water, stuff beds, and act as insulation. This plant was thought to help people sleep. People add this plant to brighten gloomy regions and entice visitors with its dark green color in the garden. Instead of masking the pattern of the landscape, these mosses reveal it. They are sometimes mixed up with sheet moss. They do need specific nutrition but are low-maintenance mosses.

They're popular because of their decorative properties. They are disease-resistant as well. As a result, people purchase Carpet moss for sale for recreational and decorative uses.

Carpet moss (Hypnum curvifolium) is low maintenance and beautiful addition to any landscape

    Maybe order in cooler months

Posted by Carol A. on Sep 02, 2020

Perhaps it was not the best idea to order during the summer months. The moss arrived a little brown and desiccated but I suspect it will green up with a bit of care. It also came complete with wildlife (a snail and a slug) at no extra cost which I did not mind at all. I was surprised to find that the moss was in rather small pieces.

    Blanket Moss

Posted by Steven Mukai on Nov 17, 2020

I submitted an earlier review where I noted that the carpet moss was beautiful, but I had only received about half the coverage of what I ordered. Also the box was open and the moss was bare in the box. About a week after submitting the review, I received another box in the mail, this time securely taped, and with moss in a plastic garbage bag. Thanks so much for reading the review and addressing my concern. The moss is indeed beautiful, and now I feel good about the purchase. Thanks again for the customer service!

It arrived in good condition. We put it down two days ago, so I don't know how well it will do as of yet.
