With intriguing curved micro leaf clusters, Sheet Moss forms an attractive and dense mat of green over the landscape. Its name is a direct reflection of its ability to form a blanket structure over the soil/substrate that is void of gaps and leaves nothing to desire.
It is an effective non-aggressive ground cover with a true set-and-forget nature. It isn't just seen outdoors, however. This plant is also frequently used in floral arrangements due to its unique wild texture and vivid green hue.

Landscape Uses for Sheet Moss (Hypnum curvifolium)
Notoriously low-maintenance and self-sufficient, this plant is ideal if you are looking to fill a space in more difficult areas of your terrain, such as shaded or moist areas. Sheet Moss will cling to any substrate it is given, spreading at a moderate pace to gently fill in the areas. Before you know it, your garden space will have a new flair of green charm.
Key Features of Sheet Moss (Hypnum curvifolium)
The leaves of Sheet Moss are scaley and a bit curly, making it easy to identify upon close inspection. The leaves are notably longer than other popular lawn mosses which is what lends itself to being an effective groundcover.

How to Grow and Care for Moss
Moss is a timeless, low-maintenance plant that brings a soft, green carpet to shaded gardens, woodland paths, stone walls, and water features. Unlike traditional plants, moss doesn't have roots—it absorbs water and nutrients directly through its leaves—making it ideal for moist, acidic soils and areas with poor fertility. To grow moss successfully, choose a shaded or partially shaded location with consistent humidity and minimal foot traffic.
Prepare the site by clearing debris and lightly roughing up the soil or surface to help the moss adhere. Gently press live moss onto the area, mist with water, and keep it consistently moist for several weeks to encourage establishment. Moss prefers rainwater or distilled water, as tap water may contain minerals that hinder growth.
Once established, moss requires very little care—no mowing, fertilizing, or pruning. Simply keep it moist and remove any fallen leaves or debris to prevent smothering. With its rich texture and calming appearance, moss adds a natural elegance and sense of tranquility to any landscape.
We carefully package every plant to retain superior moisture during transit. Once prepared, orders ship the same day through UPS or USPS, with typical delivery in 2–4 days.
Returns are not accepted, but plants are reshipped if extended warranty insurance was purchased at checkout. Otherwise, all plants include a standard 5-day warranty after delivery.

My beautiful moss delivered to Atlanta from TN Nursery yesterday. It arrived looking lush and ready to beautify the earthy shaded areas around the sides of my house.
This morning, I followed the helpful installation instructions TN Nursery included with my order to get my mossy lil’ test patch planted. When I was done, it looked so dang good I began mapping out more shady spots to fill with my next order of moss.
They say a rolling stone gathers no moss. Well, I want my yard’s shady patches to gather MORE moss from TN Nursery because it looks approximately a thousand times better when it does.
TN Nursery delivered sheet moss that was fresh, green, and full of texture. It spread easily and gave my backyard garden a rich, natural forest floor look. Fantastic quality and excellent value.
The sheet moss I ordered came vibrant, thick, and full of life. It established quickly and now provides a lush, soft ground cover that enhances the beauty of my woodland-style garden.
