Bellflower Plant (Uvularia grandiflora)
Bellflower (Campanula) is a genus of flowering plants in Campanulaceae. There are over 500 species of bellflower, which are found throughout the Northern Hemisphere, with the highest diversity in the Mediterranean region.
Bellflowers are known for their bell-shaped flowers, which come in various colors, including blue, purple, white, and pink. They bloom in summer and can continue to flower into fall. The leaves are typically toothed or lobed and can be evergreen or deciduous.
Bellflowers can be grown in various settings, including garden beds, borders, and rock gardens. They prefer well-draining soil and full sun to partial shade.
They are relatively easy to grow and propagate, and many species self-seed.Some popular species of bellflower include the harebell (Campanula rotundifolia), Canterbury bells (Campanula medium), and peach-leaved bellflower (Campanula persicifolia).
Bellflower Plant: Uvularia grandiflora, the bellflower plant, is a perennial woodland species native to eastern and central North America. Due to its early spring arrival, many gardeners include this lovely yellow flower in their landscape plan. In some USDA growing zones, it blooms for about two weeks as early as March--a welcome sight for winter-weary eyes.
If this plant seems familiar, but the name doesn't sound right to your ears, you may better recognize it by one of its many names. Here are a few others:
Large bellwort
Large flower bellwort
Large-flowered bellwort
Merry bells
Great merry bells
Yellow bellwort
Each of these nicknames comes from the sunny yellow, bell-shaped flowers.
Where to Grow the Bellflower Plant
As a native to the lush forests across the eastern United States, the bellflower perennial plant prefers filtered sun to a full shade location. It will accept a couple of hours of full morning sunshine despite the shade preference.
It also likes soil that compares to what it would have in the forest--lots of rich, woody material. Think about adding compost, shredded leaves, and hardwood mulch. Bellflower is an excellent companion plant with other forest species, such as ferns and peat moss.
Bellflower can tolerate short periods of dryness and heat. However, it prefers well-draining soil with some moisture. You might need to water it during summertime's hot spells.
Besides optimizing these growing conditions, the bellflower plant is self-sufficient and resilient. Once established, you will enjoy it without much intervention.
Use bellflowers in a shade garden, rock garden, or natural area. But leave space--it will soon colonize and give you lots of baby bellflowers to dig up and use throughout your property or share with friends.
The Sunny Look of Bellflowers
Bellflower leaves reach about six inches long and two inches wide, forming a pale green lance shape. They encircle the green stem and have an interesting fine white fuzz on the bottom.
The cheery yellow flowers form a cone shape and then gracefully droop, forming an elongated bell shape. Each flower has six petals, emitting a soft, fresh floral fragrance.

Cushion Moss - 5 Square Feet
$34.99
Cushion Moss, Leucobryum glaucum
Pin Cushion Moss, Cushion Moss (Leucobrym glaucum)
Cushion Moss: Leucobrym glaucum is a dense clumping plant that grows in a loosely-formed ball shape. It earns its name from its appearance, which resembles a cushion. You might also hear other gardeners call it to pin cushion moss.
Cushion moss has a mild and earthy aroma that some describe as a spring day after a thunderstorm.
Cushion Moss Adds Interesting Color and Texture to Any Garden
Cushion moss can grow more extensively than most other moss species. In nature, it grows in shady valleys and around the edges of swamps, where moisture collects quickly and drains slowly. It prefers densely packed soil or rocks, a lot of moisture, and partial to heavy shade, but it can also tolerate partially sunny locations.
Leucobrym glaucum foliage is attractive cushion moss, and it grows in dense clumps. The tufts of moss stay low to the ground. grows outward to cover the ground instead of reaching upward. A mature plant reaches a height of about three feet and can spread relatively wide, usually giving it a shorter, more rounded appearance. This expansive growth makes it the perfect ground cover for any shade garden.
The color of cushion moss is a gentle green, with definite gray to silvery tones that will lend an air of casual elegance to any garden.
Where to Plant Leucobrym glaucum
Understanding that cushion moss occurs in nature in wet woodlands and swamps helps you pick the best place to plant it. It requires ample water and shade to survive. You can grow it in your garden or on a rock wall--it does not care about soil quality.
So if you have a shaded, compacted, and bare area in your yard that collects water and requires a long time to drain after a rainshower, then cushion moss might provide you with the solution to that issue. This low-maintenance, shade-loving plant can be the accent piece that revives this otherwise desolate spot in your garden.

American Holly
$12.99
"Carolina" American Holly Ilex Opaca
American holly (Latin: Ilex opaca) is an ever-popular, highly-prized evergreen tree. It's a native North American species that you see dotted across the landscape in gardens throughout 5 through 9.
This tree loves moderate warmth and partial shade to partial sun and requires well-amended, fast-draining, rich soil. That might sound demanding. But once you meet those needs, the American holly tree will grow without asking you for anything else.
TN Wholesale Nursery recommends this tree for its inherent good nature. The species is both robust and resilient, healing quickly if it ever sustains any damage. It is wind damage-resistant, deer-resistant, frost-resistant, heat-resistant, and disease-resistant.
The American Holly Tree Is Incredibly Handsome Year-Round
This handsome evergreen tree will enliven your yard even after everything else goes dormant during the gray days of the winter season.
Its leaves are a matte, dark green color and broad--three inches long and almost two inches wide. They grow densely packed on the stems, creating abundant green foliage. The branches emerge toward the bottom of the trunk. That low growth makes Ilex opaca the first choice for many as a natural snow fence or windbreak.
The tree produces lovely cream or buttery-white flowers in springtime, April, or May, depending on the USDA zone. The blossoms each measure one to three inches across. Although relatively small, they tend to form a cluster that gives them a more prominent presence.
Those blooms will bring the berries, under one inch in diameter and orange-red, in the mid to late fall. The berries are bright and eye-catching--both to human passersby and to any winter birds who remain in the region.

Its fronds are lance-shaped with a tapering tip; it grows up to two feet wide. Its leaflets are small and appear near the base of the frond. The plant reaches a height of about two to three feet at maturity.
The crown of the root system of the fern may be visible and dark brown. The leaflets grow in pairs of bright, glossy green.
New York Fern care
The New York fern grows in the forest in shallow wetlands, wooded ravines, and near streams. It's particularly partial to full shade and mixed shady areas. This species will tolerate filtered sunshine, but you will succeed best when you plant it in the shade. The New York fern is not particular about soil quality.
If you are in an area with a decent amount of regular rainfall, you are done with your job after you plant Parathelypteris noveboracensis. However, gardeners in hotter and drier regions must assist it by watering when required. It likes water, but it does not want standing water for prolonged periods--so take care not to overwater your New York fern.
By digging and separating the new clumps, you can control the growth as the plant spreads. Use them in other shady areas of your yard or share them with friends.
How to Use the New York Fern in Your Garden
Here are a few ways TN Nursery customers use New York ferns in their gardens:
Ground cover plant: Because this is one of the shorter ferns and spreads rapidly, many use it as a beautiful green ground cover in bare spots.
Erosion control: If you have areas of the yard prone to erosion due to wind or running water (creeks or streams), plant some New York ferns--they will help stop the elements from further eroding your yard.
Border garden: Add this two-foot high fern to the middle row of your borders.
Shade garden: Finding species to add color to shade gardens can be challenging; ferns are an excellent solution.
Wetter areas: Consider moisture-loving ferns if you have a slow-draining spot. They help wick away the water, allowing your yard to dry faster.
