Santa Rosa Plum Trees Have Many Purposes  Add them to Your Garden Many fruiting trees have dual purposes. They are one of these dual-purpose plants. They have delightful dark-colored, gnarly bark, providing a dramatic backdrop against winter snow events. They can grow to about twenty feet in height and eight to ten feet in width, depending on climate, soil, and moisture. They grow well in drier zones but require more frequent water to keep roots from drying. They are beautiful and functional.  In zones two through five, they begin to bloom as soon as temperatures are regularly above sixty degrees.
