Solomon Seal

Solomon's Seal: Polygonatum biflorum, most commonly known as Solomon's Seal, is one of the hardiest, most carefree plants we cultivate at TN Nursery. It is a shade-loving plant that needs full to partial shade.

Solomon's Seal is ideal for shady spots where little else grows for lack of sunshine. This plant is the solution when you need to breathe life into a heavy shade spot--you will love the petite white flowers and showy foliage.

Furthermore, Solomon's Seal is disease-resistant, drought-resistant, and pest-resistant.

The Natural Beauty of Solomon's Seal

Solomon's Seal is a medium-sized plant, growing to approximately three feet high and two feet wide. The alternating five-inch, ovate, bright green leaves sometimes have a creamy white tip that adds intriguing contrast.

Stems emerge from the leaves and, as they grow taller, begin to lean over into a graceful swoop. The little white flower dangles downward from the bottom of the stem. The overall impression is lovely and natural.

How to Utilize Solomon's Seal in Your Garden

Solomon's Seal multiplies with relative speed, making it excellent for filling in any bare shady spots you might have.

Here are a few potential uses:

Native species shade garden: When you use native species, you get the hardiest plants for the least amount of care. Solomon's Seal loves the shade and will help fill a dull area.

Near the middle of a garden border: Solomon's Seal's full height will be under three feet--perfect for the middle row of your shade garden's perimeter.

Water garden: A shaded water garden poses a challenge, as most aquatic species desire the full sun. However, Solomon's Seal makes a colorful addition to the shady banks of your pond.

Ground cover: Because it reproduces through fast-growing underground shoots, Solomon's Seal makes a beautiful, lush ground cover species.
