November 2025Wild Blackberry - Rubus moluccanus
The Wild Blackberry is native to eastern Australia and Southeast Asia. It is considered to be a scrambling or climbing shrub that has a vigorous growth habit, forming dense thickets of robust and woody stems. It grows well in disturbed areas, along forest edges, and roadsides.
The robust stems of this shrub are grayish brown to reddish in color and covered in prickly hooked thorns. The leaves are large and covered in spines themselves. They have a crinkled appearance on the surface and are lush green in color. Flowering in spring, the blooms emerge on a terminal and compound raceme and are pinkish-white to bright white in color.
