Sweet Gum Tree Seedlings
Sweet Gum Tree Seedlings: TN Nursery offers sweet gum seedlings for any customers who need them for larger-scale landscaping or gardening projects.
Liquidambar styraciflua, aka the sweet gum tree, is a tall and lovely tree that performs well in the warmer USDA plant hardiness zones.
The sweet gum tree is a species native to the United States. In nature, you might spot it near swamps, rivers, or near flood plains. They are drought-tolerant after maturity but need an inch or two of water for the first few months after planting.
People choose the sweet gum gree for its easy-care nature and beautiful green foliage. It needs little from you except a sunny spot and plenty of elbow room to grow.
Alternative Names for Your Sweet Gum Seedlings
Some gardeners prefer other common names for Liquidambar styraciflua. Here are a few:
- Red Sweet Gum
- American Sweet Gum
- Redgum
- Gumball Tree
- Sweetgum Tree
- Sweetgum
- Sweet Gum
Each of these alternate names refers to the sweet gum tree's fruit of this tree--one to three-inch seed pods shaped like gumballs that emerge every autumn. The pods contain two seeds, nourishing your local birds and small mammals in the winter.
Your Sweet Gum Tree Seedlings Will Grow Into a Grand Specimen
It is hard to picture what your sweet gum seedlings might look like later, but picture this.
Your sweet gum tree seedlings will become a tall, stately tree--a hundred feet or taller. It will develop a pyramidical crown but with a gently rounded top. The trunk will be three to four feet in diameter to support that skyscraping height. It will have an attractively ridged, gray bark.
Little sweet gum tree seedlings will eventually bear glorious deep green leaves, up to eight inches across, with slightly toothy margins and multiple lobes that form a loose star shape. Those leaves will display gorgeous rust, amber, burgundy, and orange in the fall.
The gumball fruits begin to emerge around the end of August and continue throughout the earliest weeks of fall. They will drop from the tree during the cold winter and nourish your local wildlife.
