Memorial Tree: A perfect way to remember a loved one

Planting a Memorial Tree in your yard or garden space can be a special, healing tribute to a lost loved one. By planting something new, you bring an organism to life and create an enduring physical reminder of your loved one. These trees function as a beautiful addition to your landscape by attracting pollinators, and providing habitat food for wildlife. Their lush foliage, bright flowers or year-round beauty are a perfect way to enhance your garden space, while also honoring someone special.

Plant Details - Memorial Tree

Light Requirement: Full sun, partial sun

Water Needs: Moderate

Soil Preference: Moist, well-drained

Season of Interest: Spring, Summer, Fall

Wildlife Value: Bees, butterflies, birds, small mammals

Notable Characteristics - Memorial Tree

A Memorial Tree promotes and supports local wildlife, including bees and butterflies who pollinate, birds and small mammals who make their home in the branches, and insects too. Besides this, they promote a sensory and emotional experience – from choosing your tree, to carefully planting it, to watching it grow and thrive for years to come. This organism remains as a physical way to honor and remember someone when they are no longer with you. It’s a living tribute to your memories, whose beauty you will love to gaze upon for decades to come.

Landscape and Maintenance

We carry a wide variety of the Memorial Tree, so it is easy to find one that matches your garden needs. These trees normally thrive in full sun, but can also tolerate partial shade as well. They like moderate watering and moist, well drained soil. The lush foliage or gorgeous flowers of these trees are well suited to many places in your garden, such as lining a walkway, part of a woodland garden, or a vibrant centerpiece. No matter your goals, these trees offer a beautiful way to honor loved ones: with enduring beauty and resilience in nature.

Care

Often chosen for their symbolic significance, Memorial Trees thrive in well-drained soil with regular watering. Prune dead or damaged branches annually to maintain health and shape. Mulch close to the ground to maintain moisture and protect the roots.

Memorial Tree spreads by suckering and produces dense, spreading foliage

Plant bare root trees during the dormant season in early spring or late fall (November through April). Dig the hole twice as wide as the roots so the soil is well-drained. Position the tree so the root flare is at or just above ground level. Fill the hole back with the soil you dug from and water. Maintain soil moisture, especially in the tree's early years, by providing deep, regular watering. Apply a 2-4 inch mulch away from the trunk at the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune trees during the first few seasons to establish strength and resilience, remove damaged branches, and continue maintenance pruning as the tree matures. Regularly inspect for pests and diseases and apply integrated pest management practices. Protect young trees from mechanical damage and extreme temperatures with tree guards, and stake them if necessary for support, removing the stakes after one or two years.
