It is a very drought tolerate shrub but is prone to root rot in soils that are not well-drained. While it is resistant to deer, rabbits, and nematodes, boxwood mites and leaf miners will take advantage of stressed plants.
It grows well in dappled shade conditions. It also will grow in full shade but it will elongate and produce sparser foliage. Full sun conditions can be too intense for this shrub and may result in the foliage turning a reddish tone. Plant this shrub in an area that is sheltered from the wind.
