When Is A Peach A Vegetable? Does It Make A Difference?

You've probably heard that in the old days, people were afraid to eat tomatoes. That's because they looked like the deadly nightshade. Folks thought tomatoes were pretty, though, and grew them ornamentally. You've also probably heard that while we call it a vegetable, it's a fruit.

Well, Arkansas took that idea to a whole new level. It's both their state fruit and their state vegetable! The Latin name has changed over the years. Now, it's Lycopersicon esculentum which means "edible wolf peach." If you'd like to try a real peach, try the Red Haven peach in our tree nursery.
