Big Blooms, Native Roots, Stunning Summer Color
Hibiscus Moscheutos is a scientific name for Swamp Rose Mallow. This perennial shrub is a striking native perennial prized for its massive, dinner-plate-sized blooms that light up the landscape from mid-summer to early fall. This wetland beauty showcases vibrant flowers in shades of soft pink, deep rose, and white, often with a contrasting crimson center. It's a pollinator magnet, easily drawing hummingbirds and butterflies into the garden.
Please Note:
We grow them in all colors mixed in a row, and we do not guarantee the color received. They are sold as "Mixed Colors only." Chances are really good that if you order 3+, you will get 2 colors.
Thrives in Wet or Moist Soils
This plant feels right at home in damp conditions, making it ideal for rain gardens, low-lying beds, pond edges, or soggy spots where other perennials might fail. While it prefers moisture, it adapts to regular garden soil with consistent watering. At maturity, Swamp Rose Mallow can reach 4 to 7 feet tall, adding bold vertical interest to naturalized gardens, native plantings, or the back of sunny borders.
Low Maintenance with Lasting Impact
Despite its tropical look, Hibiscus Moscheutos is incredibly tough and cold-hardy. It dies back in winter and returns stronger every spring. Minimal care is needed—prune dead stems before new growth emerges. Once established, it performs reliably with little input, making it perfect for gardeners who want showy results without high maintenance.

How to Grow and Care for Bare Root Shrubs
Bare root shrubs are a budget-friendly and efficient way to plant during the cooler months when they’re dormant. Before planting, soak the roots in water for 3–6 hours to rehydrate them. Choose a site with the appropriate light exposure for the species—most flowering shrubs prefer full to partial sun. Dig a hole wide enough to spread out the roots and deep enough so the crown (where the roots meet the stems) sits level with the soil surface.
Mound a bit of soil at the bottom of the hole, spread the roots over it, and backfill with native soil while gently firming it to remove air pockets. Water deeply after planting to settle the roots. Keep the soil moist but not soggy during the first growing season to encourage healthy establishment.
Mulch around the base (not touching the stems) to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune lightly to remove any broken branches and to shape after the first flush of growth. With minimal care, bare root shrubs will leaf out beautifully and grow into reliable, long-term landscape anchors.
