A lawn is a place where we spend most of our time during the evenings either watering them or exploring the greenery around.
If we do not have a perfect lawn with soft green grass, it is quite natural that we’ll feel that there is something missing. Right kind of grass with good texture can make a garden look marvelous.
There are many types of grass available on the market
However, we should choose the one that can be grown in the type of climate we live in. If we choose the right kind, then it’ll adapt easily to the climatic conditions and will thrive in the garden.
The lawn grass can be majorly categorized into three categories which are—
Cool Season Grass: There are many varieties available for the cool season. To name a few, there is Bentgrass, Kentucky bluegrass, Red Fescue, Tall Fescue, Annual Rye green, Rough Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass. These grasses can grow in cold areas and with slight rainfall. They are highly tolerant of drought which makes them an ideal cool season grass.
Transitional Grass: Transitional zone grasses are adaptable to cool as well as warm climates. These grasses can grow and live throughout summer and winter period. Few Examples of Transitional zone grasses are Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, Tall fescue, Thermal blue, Zoysia grass. These grasses can be planted across West Virginia to Tennessee. Tall fescue does well across Indiana, Ohio to Texas.
Warm Season Type Grass: These grasses can survive warm and hot summers. However, proper soil conditions need to be met to grow these grasses. If not, unwanted weeds and grass may start growing and later on it can be a tedious task to remove them. Some examples of warm season type grasses are Bermuda grass, Buffalo grass, Carpetgrass, Centipede, Bahia, St. Augustine, Zoysia grass.
These are common types of turf grass which can be grown depending on the soil and weather condition of your area. Rainfall and temperature play an important role in these grasses, and healthy grass wears vibrant green color. During winters some of the warm season grasses start to turn brown if proper soil requirements are not met. You can use lawn feeders to keep them healthy and green.
When you plan to purchase any of the lawn grasses, it is recommended to seek consultation from a nursery to know more about the plants and their requirements.
