This plant is used a lot in treating things for medicinal purposes. This is a great plant for someone that is trying to stop smoking and has been used for that very reason. The plant contains something that is similar to nicotine. The leaves on this plant taste like tobacco when they are chewed. This was a prevalent plant with the Native Americans. They used this plant for just about everything that called for medicine in their days. This plant is suitable for stimulating respiratory areas in the brain. It will make breathing stronger and deeper. This plant is used for treating several respiratory ailments like a Whipping cough, pneumonia, and chronic bronchitis. The entire plant is suitable for some medicinal purpose. It is also used as a stimulant, sedative, expectorant, analgesic, cathartic and anti-asthmatic. This plant is also used in treating convulsive and inflammatory disorders such as epilepsy, tetanus, convulsions and is also used to treat sores and abscesses. They have also used this plant in treating fevers, colds, and even tonsillitis. This plant will induce vomiting and has been used for snakebites and scorpion bites as well. The roots of this plant are great for sores and wounds that are hard to heal. You do need to check with your family physician before starting any herbal treatments because sometimes they can interfere with other medicines that you may be taking.
