Do You Prune?

Do You Prune? | TN Nursery | Facts

The hot weather has probably killed most of your plants as summer draws near. The warm, dry spell that has swept the nation has seemed to plague almost everyone’s plants, trees, and shrubs.

We often find ourselves looking forward to spring and summer because it is when you can see our plants thrive and look their best, bringing us many new and exciting colors to our yard, making our landscape look pleasant and fresh. But when the hot, summer heat seems to start taking those fresh, exciting blooms, we start trying to figure out how to get rid of the old.

When you have old, dead blooms or leaves on your plants, removing the die-off is the best way to get rid of them. When your plant has dead blooms and dead leaves, you need to start pruning them back to salvage what’s left of the good ones.

Pruning trees, shrubs, and plants are easy because all you need to do is get a sturdy pair of cutting shears or old scissors, pull back the dead blooms, and snip them off at the base. By removing the old, dead leaves and blooms, you can give the rest of your plants more nutrients because even though your plants have died on them and you see the dead, the water and nutrients from the plants are still going into the dead area. When you remove the dead, it allows the nutrients to be passed on to other parts of the plant, such as healthy areas, and can use more life.

Pruning is simple and can be done in a matter of time!
