Acorns

Anyone who has acorns in their yard probably cringes at the sound of them. Acorns are dangerous when walking in your yard because they roll and can cause you to lose your balance. Many statistics have shown that people who have acorns are sent to the doctor or emergency room every year as the cause of falling over acorns.

We love raking the acorns, getting them up for our family, and returning to the deer. We hunt in our area, especially in the winter, so feeding the deer acorns provides them with food as we can fatten them up, and it also allows us to save money by feeding them products right, straight from our yard.

Acorns also make great bread. For many, many years, people have loved acorn bread which is a family and old pastime favorite. Acorn bread is very nutritious to make and is a great way to use your acorns that are so stubbornly getting on your nerves in your yard.

Acorn Bread Recipe

1 cup Acorn meal (Acorns in which they are shelled and ground up)

1 cup flour

2 tablespoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons sugar

1 egg, beaten

1 cup milk

3 tablespoons oil

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease loaf pan. Sift together dry ingredients. Combine egg, milk, and oil in a separate bowl. Combine dry and wet ingredients. Stir to moisten—batter will be lumpy. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
