Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather

Posted by Tammy Sons on Feb 03 , 2016

Do you enjoy seeing blue jays at your feeder? They're so beautiful.

Or do they chase off your favorite birds (and maybe even you) leaving you furious? If so, you might understand why in old fashioned African American folklore, blue jays were said to be servants of the devil!

Despite their amazing colors, they have apparently been getting on people's nerves for quite some time! Strangely, the blue we see is not actually a pigment. That beautiful blue comes from a light refraction due to the way their feathers are structured. Find little blue stem, a perennial native grass, in our online plant nursery.
