Creeping Phlox 5 For $14.99 Description

Creeping Phlox

Creeping Phlox are beautiful flowering plants, native to North America. Many species of flowers are contained within this genus. Therefore, planting zones range from 2-9. Is a good idea to know the phlox before choosing soil and planting areas. Some love full sun; others require shade. They are a spreading plant that work well with other ground cover type plants. Hanging pots and porch pots are suitable as well, so long as they have the proper drainage. They may be transplanted from pots to the ground. Most Phlox must be planted in the spring.

If planting seeds, plant them 1/8th of an inch in the ground or in pots in late winter or early spring. The seeds should be 10 inches apart. After 5-10 days they will germinate. Seedlings must be planted after the threat of frost has passed. Each mature plant should be 1-2 feet apart. The specific species will determine the soil type and amount of water required.

Many will bloom from spring to summer, with a few varieties blooming into September as well. The blooms have five petals, and range in color from various shades of pink and purple to blue, red, and white. Because of their fragrance, they are often used in bouquets. Some of the tallest varieties grow as tall as 4 feet, as in the case of the purple, pink, red, or white or Smooth . The smaller plant reaches no higher than 6 inches and is purple, pink or red.

The plant requires shade and grows up to a foot high. Each species has a different spreading width. They make attractive ornaments for walkway or path edges, as well as near rock walls. They are a diverse and beautiful plant that adds charm and variety to any garden space.  Imagine a spring floral carpet in sweet pastel blooms. The perennial ground cover might appear delicate and vulnerable, but it's actually a tough evergreen plant that is easy to maintain and stays attractive throughout the winter months.

The versatility of this plant is quite appealing, because this moderately growing plant is effective at suppressing weeds. It will spread but is not invasive, and some selections are even mildew resistant.

The perennial thrives in all the nooks and crannies of hard surfaces, like over rocky areas, in between steps, curbs, pavers, slopes, pathways and more. A blanket of small, pretty five-pointed flowers shaped like stars makes a gorgeous and welcome, mounding accent around any property's landscaping. Pastels are most common, but the Creeping Phlox's other hues are just as alluring in saturated hues, purely white and candy stripes.

Creeping Phlox is ideal for zones 3 to 9 and blooms in spring in colorful, dense clusters

Plant in sun and moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic additives like compost or animal manure. They will even exist successfully in moderate clay soils. As soon as the Creeping Phlox is established, then the hardy plant can handle drought-like conditions. Most popular varieties can reach four to six inches high with a two foot spread. According to the experts, Creeping Phlox from the nursery should be planted after the first frost in the spring.

If planting in groups, then these plants should be spaced about a foot apart. They give off a fragrant scent to your property's landscape. These plants are very appealing to honeybees, butterflies and hummingbirds, showing off nature at its finest.
