Red Oak Trees

The trees arrived and looked very nice. I have them planted and have been tending to them. No signs of budding out or new growth yet, but I am hopeful.

Red Oak...

The Red Oak as well as other bare root trees I received from TN Nursery were well rooted, protected when shipped, and I look forward to seeing them leaf out this spring and grow into beautiful trees on our property.

Description Reviews

Red Oak Tree (Quercus rubra)

Red Oak Tree: Quercus rubra, the American Red Oak Tree, is a relatively fast-growing deciduous tree. The red oak tree is a North American native species, first noted in the hardwood forests of the Appalachian Mountains.

People adore this tree for its late summer to fall show of color. That's when the green leaves turn fiery red and remain on the tree for several weeks.

Common names for the quercus rubra tree:

Quercus rubra has several common names, including the following:

  • American Red Oak
  • Eastern Red Oak
  • Mountain Red Oak
  • Northern Red Oak
  • Red Oak

Each name refers to the same species, but different regions call it by other names.

The Red Oak Tree Is a Wildlife Refuge

The red oak tree is a beautiful addition to your local ecosystem. Here are a few visitors you might see:

  • During the spring, birds will build their nests and raise their young among the camouflage of the large emerging leaves and the sturdy branches.
  • Bees and butterflies will visit the small yellow and green flowers in the last weeks of spring and pollinate your garden.
  • Later in the season, the tree will drop large reddish-brown acorns. You will see squirrels busily collecting them to store away for the months of winter scarcity.
  • Deer may also visit your yard in the winter to forage for acorns left behind by the squirrels--this is an essential food source for them.

If you love watching animals, you will love watching your red oak tree grow into an active wildlife hub.

The red oak tree grows to an average height of around seventy feet and has a canopy approximately the same width. The crown has a pleasing, rounded shape on maturity, making it a lovely specimen in any yard.

The leaves are large--up to seven inches--and have seven or more lobes. The foliage is green with a warm undertone in the summer before turning to its more famous bright red in the late summer or early autumn.
