We dig fresh our plants and ship immediately. We ship US Mail, Priority shipping. You will receive a tracking number once your plants ship. All plants will be fine in their packages for up to 3 days after receiving.

How We Protect Your Plants For Transit

We sell only bare root plants. We dip the roots in tera-sorb silicone gel to retain ample moisture for transit and surround with plastic. This is superior protection for plants in transit for up to 12 days.

Upon Receipt Of Your Plants

Open your plants and inspect the same day received. We offer 3 days to report any problems with your order. Bare root plants need to be planted within 2-3 days of receiving unless weather-related problems prohibit planting. Store in a cool place and keep roots moist and covered with plastic until they can be planted. Water for the first week daily after planting.

Ground Fern Moss - Thuidium delicatulum has a Fern Like Appearance

 Ground Fern Moss, or Thuidium Delicatulum, derives its visible name from its fern-like appearance. Interestingly, Ground Fern Moss is found naturally on every continent but Antarctica. It grows slowly and will cover everything from paths to stones to logs or stumps. This particular moss is thick, producing small stalks which support leaflike structures resembling fern leaves, and is excellent to use for use covering walkways, paths, rocks, and even for growing topiary.

Ground Fern Moss can Withstand Different Soil Conditions

Just make sure to give this one extra water and attention so that it stays lush and beautiful in the garden area. It is a fast-growing moss and can grow anywhere from four to five feet in a single year. Additionally, this moss withstands some different soil conditions. This moss is often used to be planted between flagstones, bricks, or cobblestones, and has a very successful transplant rate. As with most mosses, keep it moist until you are ready to plant it.

With adequate moisture, it will thrive and spread quickly. It provides beautiful insulation for the ground and can absorb water up to twenty times its weight. Once it is established, it is capable of enduring drought periods. Fern Moss will grow on soil, stone, concrete or wood surfaces. An entire moss lawn can be created; it can be an excellent accent for a water feature or any garden.

 frequently referred to as the Ground Fern Moss, the Thuidium delicatulum moss is a fast-growing perennial member of the Thuidiaceae family and the Hypnales order. As an evergreen perennial moss, the Ground Fern Moss is acquired its name from the distinctive growth pattern among its leaves.   This fern is known to grow in several habitats, including certain varieties of sandstone, in the ravines of woodlands, and on forest logs. Furthermore, the Ground Fern Moss is also found growing on the side of hills, in pine groves, and near rivers and streams. 

 Typically, the Ground Fern Moss is found throughout the United States and Canada, with especially large populations growing in Midwestern states like Illinois.   The leaves of the Ground Fern Moss grow rapidly in a matted pattern, providing ground cover throughout its habitat. Leaves are typically deep green to dark yellow in color and feature either two or three small collections of leaflets on the side of the stem.  Stems of the Ground Fern Moss reach a maximum length of between 3 inches and 3.5 inches, while the leaves which grow from these stems can reach up .25 inches in length.   The optimal growing environment of the Ground Fern Moss will have partial shade and have moderate to high-moisture soil with a low pH.
