This process will hold in some heat and allow you to compost year-round. Even though this method works, it does work at a slower rate.
However, it lets you use food items and other natural items such as leaves and continue to compost. Using leaves in your compost bin will be primarily done in the fall since that is when most leaves tend to be on the ground. If you have a mower or chipper, it helps to chop up the leaves before you add them to the compost. Leaves are an excellent start to any compost bin.
