Landscaping with color

Posted by TN Nursery on

When it comes to landscaping everyone has their own style and preference. After all, that’s what gardening and landscaping is about…making it one’s own! Some homeowners choose to place their plants by colors, similar heights and compatibility. While some homeowners choose to just random plant flowers wherever they feel the need strike. Is there really a right way versus the wrong way?

Most designers would suggest that it is better to have a theme, that by mixing too many colors and too many different varieties you will end up having a cluttered mess. If one would look at images, they will see that many homeowners adapt to the same theme of planting similar colors near each other for a more bold impact or look.

Blazing Star flowers are unique and colorful.

Can one have too many colors? Yes, planting too many colors will again give one a messy look or a cluttered look. It will look as if one doesn’t know which plants they prefer, so they plant them all. While in some instances and yards such as big yards this look of a lot of plants mixed with a lot of colors will work, in a small garden or landscape it will look too cluttered. If you choose to plant colors, together one doesn’t have to plant all the same flower. For example, violets come in white and blue so you can use both varieties. Lilies also would work as well. Using the same flower that can bloom in various colors will work well together and create a more uniform, dynamic of a look.

There are many different plants out there to choose from so why not let your imagination go wild! Black Eyed Susan flowers make a great statement. Your yard is your yard and no one else’s. It's all about color preference and what look you choose to go. If one prefers to create a mixed look with many different colors and plants that will work while if one chooses to go out there and stick to a more uniform look with similar patterns its all up to the homeowner!
