Just find the head of the tick right under the skin surface line and pull the tick directly out without twisting or turning the body or squeezing the belly, which will cause pathogens to be released. Wash the area with soap and water or alcohol.
Wearing eucalyptus oil is an effective deterrent to having ticks burrow under your skin. Many commercially produced powders and sprays are also available at your local pet supply store. These preparations usually contain DEET or Permethrin as an efficient way to repel both ticks and fleas from infesting your pet and causing illness.
