Space may not be able to support life, but space stations can.
The French have assigned an astronaut to take care of a tiny garden on the International Space Station.
The experiment hopes to figure out ways to grow crops so astronauts can feed themselves during long voyages. A relative of the standard mustard plant is being grown at both earth gravity and zero gravity to try to make this plan a reality someday. Though not up in space, Tennessee glade grass has small charming flowers and is related to mustard.
