Open your plants and inspect the same day received. We offer 3 days to report any problems with your order. Bare root plants need to be planted within 2-3 days of receiving unless weather-related problems prohibit planting. Barnyard Grass, also known as the Echinochloa crus-Galli grass, is a wild, biennial grass common to the Midwestern United States. First discovered over 150 years ago and previously classified as a member of the panicum family, the Barnyard Grass also grows throughout Japan, Africa, and additional higher-temperature areas of Asia.
The grass features thick and tall hairless stems which often branch near the bottom and may reach up to 5 feet tall in maximum height. These stems are often lightly tinged with a brick-red color. Leaves of the barnyard grass are dark green and vary widely in length. The smaller leaves are typically between 4 to 8 inches long, while the longer leaves reach almost 2 feet at full maturity.
This grass typically responds best to soils with a very high amount of phosphorous and other nutrients, and the Barnyard Grass is best grown in soil with medium-to-wet moisture levels. Stems are much taller than the leaves of the Barnyard Grass are long, as the maximum height of the branches ranges between 4 feet and 5 feet high.
