The Vaccinium stamineum which is the botanical name for this plant and is also commonly known as deer berry even squaw huckleberry or gooseberry. This is a flowering shrub is a part of the heath family, and it is native to eastern North America. It grows in Ontario in the north and Florida in the south and even in the West - Texas. The flowers of the Deer Berry are white bell-shaped flowers, and they have five spreading petals that grow in April through June. On some occasions, these plants are also seen growing from October through November. This deciduous shrub grows into a small tree of up to 5 m tall and is the favorite browse material for white-tailed deer. From the stadium, species refers to the noticeable yellow stamens in flower. The Deer Berry fruit is an edible pubescent berry, and it is a highly variable species. There are some varieties of this plant that have been named differently.
