Tips on Transplanting Trees

Posted by Tammy Sons on Feb 02 , 2016

Transplanting trees to a new location is not as easy as it sounds. However, with a few basic tips you can successfully transplant trees to a new area.

The most important thing in transplanting is to ensure that the tree remains active and alive even after the process of transplanting.

Most of the trees tend to go in shock once they are transplanted. To avoid such situations and to maintain good conditions for the tree to grow there are certain things that should be kept in mind.

Most of the nurseries provide trees in the form of Bare Root stock, Container grown or Balled and Burlapped trees. Balled and Burlapped trees are often more expensive than the other forms available but they have more chances of survival if transplanted properly.

The most crucial thing before buying trees for your garden is to ensure that the tree you are planning to grow has access to the basic requirements like well- drained soil, sunlight and appropriate climatic conditions. Once you’ve done ample research on a particular species you are interested in, you can go ahead and purchase it from the nursery. Having basic knowledge about growth and requirements of a tree will help you determine where and when to plant them.

Early spring and fall season are considered to be the best for transplanting trees as the temperature is ideal for them. The trees should be transplanted as soon as you purchase them to avoid possible damage to the roots. It will also help in reducing the shock. Make sure that you choose a perfect location for transplanting so that the trees can establish themselves easily. If you are transplanting trees from a container make sure that the roots are not damaged while taking out the tree. It should be handled with a lot of care to avoid damage. Once you have planted the tree successfully, nurture it with care and it will thrive well.
