The History Of Flavor

Crack open a fruit pod off the cacoa tree and you'll find what we call cocoa beans.

The beans start off white but become a dark reddish brown.

Cocoa powder comes from mixing the seeds with cocoa butter, which is also derived from the same seed pod.

Originally, cocoa was called theobroma or food of the gods.

It takes about 150 to 300 seeds to make a pound of chocolate. The health benefits of chocolate go in and out of favor. Right now, it's claimed that it helps reduce blood pressure. Regardless, the smell alone of a cup of cocoa is enough to lower your stress and start you feeling better. While it doesn't smell like chocolate, spice bush is a nice aromatic plant to add to your garden to reduce stress after a long day.
