Sensory Gardens

Sensory gardens are fun for everyone to visit, but they are set up to give full advantage to blind people to enjoy the gardening experience.

Plants and trees are chosen especially for their scents and their textures. Water features of various types bring a multitude of musical sounds. Even sculptures are set up so that anyone may touch them to get a fuller experience of the art that can just be had by sight alone.

One such garden even takes it a step further. At the Betty Ott Talking Garden in Ohio, there is an interactive statue of Helen Keller. Visitors operate a water pump to trickle water over her hands to imagine how she first felt when the water ran over them for the very first time in that famous moment with Anne Sullivan. Bridalwreath Spirea is a shrub with a pleasant texture and nice, graceful branches. Find it in our tree nursery.
