Red Twig Dogwood Shrub Size 1-3 Feet Tall

The Red Twig Dogwood is popular for the dark red bark branches that deliver a winter interest against pure white snow. It emerges from the ground with multiple upright loose branches. The spring blooms are a small, flat, white to cream color, which shares the branches with 4-inch long semi-narrow leaves. The green leaves of summer fade to a range of red-burgundy-purplish color in the fall with clusters of small white fruit berries. In the winter, the red twigs of the dogwood become darker, making an interesting winter addition to any landscape. The thick root system makes it a popular shrub for hillsides and problem areas to combat soil erosion. Since the shrub loves wetter soil than most, it is an excellent choice for hard to maintain wetter grounds. It grows well in any type of soil as long as it is damp. It is easy for beginners to grow. It will do well in most Ph level soils. It appreciates cooler weather climates. The spring suckers are perfect for new gardeners to learn how to propagate plants. The dogwood is a choice for a loose border for a few reasons. It is easy to propagate, which makes it an economical choice and it is tall enough to be a deterrent to keep areas semi-private. Prune in the spring or fall. It makes a perfect garden focal point and a topic of conversation. Light gray stones around the dogwood enhance the red twig color, making it easier to see. Keep the upright branches thick to make a bold statement, or thin the branches out for an elegant touch of red. A great shrub choice if you want year-round color.
