Pink flowers are probably the most favored color of blooms

The color pink lends softness and femininity to any garden. The good news is that all types of flowers come in shades of pink. Here are three of them that make any nursery or border stand out:

Pink Lotus: Nelumbo nucifera
The spectacular pink lotus is not just beautiful but is the perfect plant for a backyard pond in zones 4 through 10. Place the rhizome in regular gardening soil in a pot with no drainage holes, and wait until there are good sized stems before moving it to the water garden. To keep the ground from getting out of the pot, place a layer of gravel over it before submerging. After that, caring for the lotus is easy. It needs full sun and does well if it’s fertilized now and then. If the plant is in an area where there are hard freezes, the pot should be placed beneath the freeze line. Another advantage of having a container is that the lotus can be brought indoors to overwinter.

Pink blooms are on shrubs, trees, and perennials

Bee Balm Plants: Monarda
Bee balm plants not only have fragrant flowers but fragrant leaves. The flowers, which are tiny and tube-shaped, attract bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. Bee balm does best in hardiness zones 4 to 9 and produces its flowers in the summer. It prefers loamy soil that can be moist or dry, but it does better in moist soil. It can grow well in full sun to light shade. The bee balm grows to about 2 to 4 feet high and is good for the central story of a herbaceous border.

Pink flowering trees and shrubs make excellent landscape plants

Coneflower: Echinacea
The pink coneflower has drooping, daisy-like petals surrounding a cone-shaped center that gives the flower its name. The flowers appear in summer and last for weeks. Coneflowers are best planted in hardiness zones 3 to 9 in well-drained, loamy soil. They can do well in full sun to light shade and grow from 2 to 4 feet in height. The plant self-sows readily.
