Product Description

Hair Grass - Deschampsia cespitosa

There's just something special about ornamental grasses like Hair Grass. These perennial plants from the evergreen family are dreamy in appearance and bend beautifully to dance in the wind or whatever else Mother Nature brings their way.

Hair Grass is quite attractive with its showy, airy plumes resembling hair that deliver bursts of striking colors like silver, green, golden and purple. These grasses might look delicate and graceful, but they're also commanding in presence and create the ultimate rustic charm for one's property. Hair Grass can achieve quite the gorgeous mound, growing one to three feet in height and one to two feet in width. Some of these ornamental grasses can also grow to six feet high.

When it comes to planting Hair Grass, nursery experts recommend zones 5 - 9 and locating the perennial in moist, well-drained soil with full sun to part shade. It's an easy care plant that requires minimum fuss and is offered in a number of varieties to choose from that features different textures, colors and sizes. The grass is resistant to most diseases and pests.

Hair Grass is also versatile in the way you present the plant for your landscape design. Some people enjoy keeping it in decorative pots or as a border plant. The texture and form of the plant softens a landscape. Others like to use the perennial plant to counter erosion, and many offer it as forage for grazing animals. Birds are attracted to Hair Grass too.

Hair Grass produces new growth when spring comes along. The plants does not need fertilizing, but adding organic mulch around the root zone is advised to help send nutrients to the root area.

Hair Grass is generally sold and shipped as container grown with the soil and roots fully intact. These plants can be ordered in small pots to large gallon containers.
