Did you ever plant avocado seeds when you were young?
Why not try one again the next time you make up a batch of guacamole or have an avocado salad? Many people add lime to their guacamole, but a bit of soy sauce spices it up nicely, too.
Also known as an alligator pear, the avocado tree can live from fifty to eighty years outdoors.
As a houseplant, it will only live about four or five. Still, that's a nice long time for a seed you were going to throw away! If you don't really like either avocados or pears, give the birds a treat with the fruit from our ornamental Bradford pear tree found among our balled trees.
