Ground Fern Moss
Ground Fern Moss - Thuidium delicatulum
Ground Fern Moss, or Thuidium Delicatulum, derives its obvious name from its fern-like appearance. Interestingly, Ground Fern Moss is found naturally on every continent but Antarctica. It grows slowly and will cover everything from paths to stones to logs or stumps. This particular moss is thick, producing small stalks which support leaflike structures resembling fern leaves, and is great to use for use covering walkways, paths, rocks, and even for growing topiary. This moss is particularly hardy, and though they may yellow and wither in adverse conditions, they quickly return to their normal, lush appearance once they have been given water. Just make sure to give this one extra water and attention so that it stays lush and beautiful for the garden area. It is a fast growing moss and can grow anywhere from four to five feet in a single year. Additionally, this moss withstand some different soil conditions. This moss is often used to be planted between flagstones, bricks, or cobblestones, and has a very successful transplant rate. As with most mosses, keep it moist until you are ready to plant it. It is a great plant for transforming shaded areas of the landscape and will not disappoint no matter where it is growing in the garden area.
