Mood moss can be seen growing in many parts of the Great Lakes region and throughout the United States, mainly in forested areas. It also grows in places like Ontario, Kentucky, New York, North Carolina, and various other regions. The plant itself is very thick, lush, and velvety. This plant grows in the forms of clumps in very rich humus soil or on logs. However, it can easily be added to improve landscape whether that be for rock gardens, ground cover for miniatures, and even topiaries. If you are growing it inside, it's going to need a lot of artificial light. If you are growing it outside, it's theirs when planted in a fully shady area or a mostly shady area.

At the beginning of the plant's growth (1-3 months), it requires minimal moisture for an establishment. The moss should be watered lightly for 3-4 minutes, 2-3 times a day. If after the three months you want the moss to become thicker, continue the watering regimen. Once established (3-6 months), it is extremely drought tolerant. The moss itself is not suited for regular foot traffic but decorative purposes. Overall, this is a great plant with different accent stones and planting to improve your landscape. I'd highly recommend it to any planter looking to add some decoration that accents other plants. You definitely won't be disappointed when you see the power and beauty of mood moss in your backyard!
