How To Choose A Shade Tree
Wednesday, March 23
You want a shade tree, but what kind? Do you need deep shade, the kind you can almost disappear in on a sunny day? Or maybe you want a moderate shade tree, something nice you can hang a swing under? Or, maybe a fairly light shade, so that you can still grow a bit of something at the base?
Live oaks are the grand old dame of deep shade. Not only can you laze away any sunny day safely under their enormous spread, you may even be able to lounge on a low branch running almost parallel to the ground. Golden rain trees with their pretty seed pods give a nice, dappled shade. For a lighter shade, try a crabapple. Their nice smelling flowers come in several colors and the small fruits look nice in the fall. We have a few options in our mail order catalog.
