Creeping Mint - Corsican Mint Plant
Creeping Mint – Meehania cordata is a perennial plant with blue-violet blooms and deep green, heart-shaped leaves that cover the ground. Corsican Mint, also known as Creeping Mint, leaves room for other garden occupants, unlike most mints. Creeping Mint is also tolerant of drought conditions.
Creeping mint, Corsican mint is the ideal perennial plant to consider if you adore a gorgeous botanical carpet. Corsican mint thrives when planted in hardiness zones 5 to 8 and in morning sun with partial shade and moist, well-drained to average soils. It's excellent for adding beneath large perennials and shrubs and will tolerate full shade if necessary. The attractive plant reaches a height of only six to 10 inches with a spread of 12 to 15 inches. When planting, nursery experts recommend a spacing of 12 inches.
You might even forget about the significance of the Creeping Mint as a key player in your garden until it erupts one late spring day into bloom. The stunning flowers feature one-inch tubes of blue-violet that resemble the beauty of Snapdragon blooms and last for several weeks. These flowers do not carry a minty fragrance, by the way.
The Creeping Mint plant is a quiet, little showstopper for the garden because it goes beautifully with other landscape inhabitants like moss. It provides attractive leafy texture and form, making it appealing to add as woodland borders, pathway edging, around rocks and by streams.
If you're looking for a great-looking, low-spreading groundcover that is easy to care for, the Creeping Mint is a winner. It offers a medium growth rate and is also deer resistant.
By May or June, hundreds of blue-violet flowers pop open and provide an early summer garden when other plants have stopped blooming.
The Creeping Mint is versatile and attracts butterflies and bees. The plants are shipped in their bare root form, so they arrive in pristine condition.
