Bugleweed Ajuga is a lovely plant that provides a glossy green look to areas. This plant makes a great ground cover for natural areas and provides beautiful color when in bloom. It produces small stalks of flowers that look amazing and will completely transform a space. The flowers can be white, pink, blue and lavender. It will thrive in well-drained soil conditions and normally blooms during the late spring and early summer months. The green foliage on this plant appears in a darker green color or light green and helps to accent the beautiful hues of the flowers as well as accent others in the surrounding areas. It will be an ideal choice for many landscaping projects from bordering and edging to creating a focal point somewhere in the area. It is also a great one to plant in groups for an even more dramatic effect in that particular area.
Bugleweed also help to keep weeds at bay since they grow so close to one another.
This type of plant is easy to take care of and is scientifically known as Lycopus Americanus. The Bugleweed is not native to North America. It is a perennial plant and has a real history of the usage for medicinal purposes. The plant grows to reach a height of 5 to 50 centimeters tall. It is tolerant to drought. However, it thrives in areas that are damp and slightly shady. You are more likely to find it growing in grass fields that are damp and at the edge of forests.
Bugleweed also attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
It has hermaphrodite flowers. The flowers are dark purplish blue and grow in clusters. Bees will usually pollinate the plant’s flower.
Some parts of the plant are edible by humans. They include its shoots and leaves. The young leaves can make salads and teas.
