Wednesday, March 23 You want a shade tree, but what kind? Do you need deep shade, which you can almost disappear on a sunny day? Or maybe you want a moderate shade tree, something nice you can hang a swing under? Or maybe a relatively light shade so that you can still grow a bit of something at the base? Live oaks are the grand old dame of deep shade. Not only can you laze away any sunny day safely under their enormous spread, but you may also be able to lounge on a low branch almost parallel to the ground. Golden rain trees with their pretty seed pods give a lovely, dappled shade. For a lighter shade, try a crabapple. Their lovely smelling flowers come in several colors, and the small fruits look nice in the fall. We have a few options in our mail order catalog.
