Product Description

Blazing Star - Liatris spicata

Blazing star, liatris spicata, is a rather tall, clump-forming perennial plant which can be found in places that usually contain a lot of moisture such as meadows, marshes and low grounds. Liatris spicata can be most commonly found in the eastern part of the United States. The plant itself has a long stalk with the flower situated at the top. Liatris Spicata will usually bloom from July to August and when it does, it is a beautiful shade of reddish purple! If you enjoy a dark rich color then this is the perfect plant for you. The best part about this plant is that it has very low maintenance! It requires sunlight all the time with a moderate amount of water needed to survive. Also, if you enjoy seeing the wildlife in your area this plant is known to attract various species of birds and insects such as butterflies! It is also a key point to mention that this plant is also very tolerant of drought as well as clay soil. The blazing star is a beautiful plant that any beginner gardener or expert can use to help improve the look of the location they are planted in. With their low maintenance, beautiful colors, and high tolerance to changes in the environment it is easy to see why this plant is a quality choice for any gardening situation. Blazing Star is a strikingly colorful and unique wildflower that can still be found sometimes growing wild in prairies across North America. They stand tall with beautiful pink to dark lavender spikes which are hard to miss. Their colorful and flowery heads are closely clustered on slender, grass-like leaves. They bloom during summer months to early fall. Blazing Star does amazingly well in home gardens and is a favorite in fresh-cut floral arrangements because of their curious characteristic of blooming from top to bottom. All that has to be done is to prune the dead flowers off the top and fresh flowers are just below.
