Berries for Ohio are great additions to any garden
If you are thinking of adding more variety to your garden, you can't beat giving berries a try. These sweet, easy to eat fruits are a great addition to any garden.
At the top of our berry list are grapes. Grapes are a true berry, with hard outer skin, and a seed buried deep within its succulent flesh. They are the best when harvested in September and October. They come in many different colors; green, red, and blue-black. Each has its delicious flavor, and can be grown right here in Ohio!
Berries for Ohio include many different varieties of awesome edible fruit
Next are blackberries. These rich clusters will grow on their own once set up and require very few resources to grow. They become in bushes next to the forest in their most natural setting and have dark clustered berries that animals and people love. Their harvesting dates are from about the mid of July to the middle of August give or take a couple of weeks on either side.
The blueberry is an excellent superfood that is easy to grow, their antioxidant properties helping with your bones, skin, and with lowering blood pressure. This perennial plant is a shrub that has fruit mostly in the summer months, like the other berries on this list. They are also prized for their flowers, having delicate white drooping bell-like flowers in the spring.
Berries for Ohio have the tastiest berries
Lastly, we have strawberries and raspberries that take us into the rich reds of the color spectrum. They are also the berries that have the shortest growing season of these mentioned; only two months (July to September for Raspberries, and May through June for Strawberries)! Within those two months, though, you can have strawberries and cream, and also add raspberries to your jams or to any preserves you may wish to make for the fall.
