The color green is a symbol of prosperity and that is why we decorate our homes with mistletoe, holly and evergreen trees on festive occasions. If one has got space and time to devote then it is always a good idea to plant shrubs and plants in one’s garden all year round. The greenery and beauty of flowers is not only soothing to the eyes but also elevates one’s mood. However, what plants should I plant in my garden is often a perplexing question for most of us. Lack of experience and exposure makes it difficult for us to decide upon the right kind of plants.
There are several factors that might help on choosing plants for your garden. The most important factor is space because if you have got ample space in your backyard or front of the house, you can easily opt for hedges and shrubs that look beautiful. Season also plays an important role in determining what all to plant in your garden. There is no point planting seeds for a plant that can’t grow in a certain season. Some of the flowering plants like Chrysanthemum, Poinsettia, Dahlia, Gerbera, Geranium, Pansy, etc. grow on seasonal basis. However, some other flowering plants like Bougainvillea, Hibiscus, Anthurium and certain varieties of roses are unseasonal and can be grown throughout the year.
If you have a balcony or a window that opens up towards the front of the house then, planting creepers and climbers is a good option. Creepers with dainty flowers look very pretty on windows and balconies. Ornamental plants like Petunia, Rose shrubs and Bonsai also look great but require a lot of pruning and care. Topiary is really good for those who love gardening and want to learn different aspects of it. In the beginning you’ll need professional help for regular pruning and cutting of plants but later on you can manage it on your own as well. So, the next time you plan to pick plants for your garden be sure to pick the right one…
